In Presbyterian churches, the congregation elects members to serve in the offices of Elder and Deacon. This model comes from Scripture, as do the qualifications and characteristics needed for those offices. The EPC Book of Order summarizes it like this: "According to Scripture, those who bear office in the Church should exhibit certain characteristics of life. This includes being above reproach, sound in the faith, wise in the things of God, and discreet in all things. Persons who fill this office should exhibit a lifestyle that is an example to all,
both in and outside of the Church."
The Elders serve together as the Session, and their primary mission is to provide spiritual leadership for the congregation. Elders help to lead our ministry Teams, and work alongside our staff and volunteers to oversee and support all the various aspects of the life of the congregation.

The mission of the Deacons of Bellefield Presbyterian Church is to be faithful and loving servants of the Lord toward Bellefield congregants as well as members of our neighboring Oakland community, specifically upholding the “love” and “serve” tenets of the vision of Bellefield: “love share grow and serve".
The Deacons’ areas of service for both Bellefield congregants and Oakland community members include supporting the Bellefield pastoral staff, prayer and visitation of congregants, providing supplemental food/grocery items, meeting financial needs, providing transportation, facilitating memorial services, creating partnerships with neighborhood organizations (UPMC Presbyterian Chaplains office and the Blessing Board) that align with the mission of the Deacons, and performing other acts of service as directed by the Session.
